Cally was transplanted from Northwest, Indiana to Chicago many moons ago. She's been VERY busy. While still in college she had to eat so began her "life of service"...Catering for fancy parties with Princess Diana and The Bulls, waiting tables at local hot spots full of colorful characters, working for theaters where some of the cast may be nude or from Alabama, doing cabaret because Liza did it, singing in rock bands because there was free booze and her love of moldy basements superseded her good judgement.
Then adulthood brought the art of learning to take advice and following through with the boring parts of life...the homework that separates the slackers from the kick-asser's! Learning guitar at Old Town School of Music changed her life she met some of the most brilliant musicians Chicago has to offer. They also were good human beings...what a gift. Bartending at Jazz Showcase years before she never knew how close she had been to all this musical talent. Jobs at School of the Art Institute and Illinois Institute of Art… were the perfect seasoning to help her artistic evolution?
How could she forget hair? Upscale salons, classes in New York, LA and…Gold Coast…to Rogers Park! Honey, ya get to know people. Then she became the boss of Cally's Curls and Company, hair salon where music meet the arts and hair...and she's here to tell you bring, "The Big Cheese," is not all its cracked up to be. It was this role that gave her the ability to bring everything front and center.
Now Cally is tired. She just wants to be a legit writer and musician who can keep making books and music to entertain her fellow friends, neighbors and super freaks!
Need to make contact , shoot her an email at callysworld007@gmail.com if you are a publisher or music company or groovy person who digs what Cally does!
If you actually like the verbal communication give her a jingle at 847-275-6773.
The Package....
Cally's work centers around love of adventure, comedy, literary arts and popular culture.
Sense of place is paramount to her novels and she is currently working on an "Escapist Series" of books beginning officially with Permanent Vacation.
The series will take place on various Hawaiian islands since in real life her brother moved from Oahu and is currently living on The Big Island. It helps to get that inside scoop.
Cally's music has radically evolved from more kitschy guitar/rock/folk to R&B rock found on Bandcamp. Her band Cally and the Snag is full of Chicago's top musicians because...her guitar playing is awful but her singing and songwriting isn't.
So bring on the campy, Polynesian,Tiki, 70's and 80's style feel good stories but toss in a little integrity and introspection- schmaltz only goes so far.
